Support the Museum

Kingsbridge Cookworthy Museum is an independent charity and an accredited museum.

We rely on rent, admissions, shop revenue and investments to enable us to continue to collect, preserve and share the history of the South Hams.

We also rely on a team of volunteers and supporters to enable us to open the museum, deal with heritage enquiries and allow us to host events, as well as to protect and document our collection of over 33,000 objects, photographs and documents.

You can help :

  • Become a Friend : You can become a Friend from only £5 a year and this includes FREE entry to the museum. We also have membership that includes use of our Local Heritage Resource Centre
and Life Membership. Please click HERE to download and print the Friends’ form.
  • Volunteering : See BELOW to view current roles for which we would love extra help.
  • Donations : See BELOW for details about how you can support the museum with its work through regular donations.
  • Legacies : See BELOW for details about how you can support the museum by leaving money in your will.

Legacies

We want to make it as easy as possible for people to leave us a bequest. We can provide sample wording that can be inserted into your will. You can talk to us about it, use your own Solicitor or contact Start Point Law in Kingsbridge (01548 288008) who can help with your bequest.

Donations

Running our Museum costs money and we receive no Government funding. We are a local charity, employing just one paid member of staff. With our fantastic team of hard-working volunteers we make sure that all monies raised are used to maximum effect. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to donate to us, and Kingsbridge Cookworthy Museum offers you a simple option.

It may feel insignificant but every donation, large or small, makes a difference:

  • £15 will buy a pack of archive sleeves to store and preserve historic documents and photographs
  • £25 helps to buy craft materials to produce our popular knitted toys, which are sold to help fund the museum
  • £50 will buy a data logger to monitor the all-important temperature and humidity in our object stores
  • £75 provides specialist paint and finishes to help preserve our agricultural machinery collection
  • £100 is the average daily cost of keeping our Grade II* listed museum building open, lit, heated and maintained
  • £250 would subsidise free children’s activities on Family Open Days
  • £500 could start to provide equipment and volunteer training to re-start our Memory Bank oral history work
  • £1,000 would fund conservation work on an important local painting gifted to us

By making a valuable donation today, you will be helping to preserve the contents of the Museum and the collections for years to come.
